{{{ Meanwhile, if you don’t understand Italian, I hope that the pictures will take you away––here above }}}
This is a letter that I had started writing for someone I love, who was going to leave for a long, long trip, around the world. After a few lines, I understood that it was something that I had to share with everyone.
…So the long letter turned into a little book, that I kept in progress for thirteen months.
Since the first night, I knew that I was going to read it sitting in the street, busking, hence the little book became a performance too.
Around all this process, a new flow of visions broke into my habits, hence the little book which became a performance became an on going stream of illustrations and paintings too. I call them the Flowerasms.
A few days after beginning my letter, Heidi Harris asked me to record my voice for a track she was working on.
She usually sings her own music, but that time she felt like experimenting with my voice, and with my mother tongue (Italian) too. Someone described our work as an “empathy experiment”, because we decided not to tell much to each other about what we were doing: I sent her my voice without translation nor explanation and I recorded it without having listened to the music she intended to mix it in. Furthermore, she edited my recording still not knowing what I was talking about. She actually changed the order of some sentences a bit, potentially risking to alter the meaning too much, but the result was actually mind-blowing, because she got my intentions completely.
…And that’s how a long letter which became little book, performance and illustrations, became sound too.
This project keeps breathing, while I work on other projects too.
The flow of Flowerasms isn’t meant to stop, I will also hand write and hand draw my letter again, in English and Spanish, and I’d love to share my pages as object to be physically handled as well, on print.
Therefore you might like to follow this trip! You can also follow Felice on Facebook, on my blog Eta dorme sui pesci volanti, or, of course, visiting my website again for more news.
